VR Contact Report—Career Exploration Continued

Since our last appointment, Ethan completed a 120-hour work experience at Parts R Us. Following his work experience, the employer hired him! He is working after school 2 hours per day, Monday through Friday, at Parts R Us. He's enjoying the job and making money, which he's using to buy new bike gear. Together, Ethan and I added his current work information to his Master Application.

Informational Interview Preparation

Ethan obtained contact information from his Uncle Bill regarding the neighbor who, it turns out, is the bike chief for professional drag bike racer, Dave Vantine. To prepare Ethan for the interview, we reviewed the purpose and preparation steps of conducting the interview. (See below.)

Side 1 of a two-sided document. Heading reads: Info Interview Prep. Sub-headings/content: What is an information interview? (opportunity to learn about a job--not a job interview); How to Set it Up (email or call to schedule an appt.); Before the Interview (review questions); During the Interview (Watch the time--keep it under 15 minutes.); After the Interview (send a thank-you note)

After reviewing the steps, we contacted Uncle Bill's neighbor, Mr. Jim Althaus, to schedule the interview. The interview is scheduled for next Monday at 10 am. Ethan and I will meet at school to do the interview. Ethan was observed to be nervous about the interview. To show Ethan the ropes, this counselor will conduct the first interview while Ethan listens in.
