Upon completion of this module, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the difference between disability, functional limitations, impediments to employment, and accommodations.
  • Access online resources to gather necessary information regarding Career Exploration, Disability Information, and Disability History and Culture.
  • Facilitate key engagements with youth to help them understand their disabilities, make informed career decisions, and request necessary accommodations.

Introduction

In the preceding modules, we learned what Pre-ETS are and why they are essential. In this module, we will learn how to apply them. More specifically, we'll explore how to tailor Pre-ETS according to specific disabilities and situations via scenarios featuring the student avatars in the AIR4VR Pre-ETS Training Program website video.

In the scenarios, we:

  • Highlight common questions or challenges encountered in Pre-ETS that will better prepare counselors for engaging with youth and employers.
  • Explore various tools and resources in the Pre-ETS toolkit.

The resources we chose and the tools we built aim to streamline the pre-ETS journey. We realize that's a tall order. However, given the limited number of counselors who provide complicated services to many, it was worth the effort. We'll ask you for feedback about whether or not we accomplished that goal.
