As discussed in Course 1, students use the information they learn about themselves to make informed decisions regarding their vocational goals and the services they need to achieve those goals.

Group is the perfect platform for them to describe how their chosen goals are compatible with their interests and abilities. They can also take turns practicing how to clearly describe their disabilities and accommodations so that others can understand. In doing so, they will become more comfortable asserting preferences and needs without apology. They will, in effect, be developing their voice.

Work in this area helps youth answer the following questions:

  • What jobs are compatible with my interests and abilities?
  • Could I do the main duties of the jobs with or without accommodations?
  • What accommodations would I need to do the jobs well?
  • When and how do I request accommodations?
