Given the positive reports from Savannah, her employers, and coworkers, Debra drafted a customized Job Proposal and phoned Erika to make the proposal.

In the proposal, Debra suggested that Savannah continue her same duties, with the same support and transportation strategies. Because of Savannah's continuous improvement, Debra suggested transferring an existing task to Savannah and proposed additional duties that could expand their menu of services to customers and increase sales. See the proposal below.

Customized Employment Proposal for Savannah S.

Job Title:

Stock Clerk

Wage

$8.64/hr.

Schedule:

3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, M-F, 10 hours/wk. for four weeks. (Total: 40 hours)

Job Tasks

Stock and rotate canned goods and household items as outlined in the previous job description.

Additional Tasks for Consideration

Covid-19 Precaution Cleaning

Consider transferring this task to Savannah so that clerks could use their time to expedite customer checkout during a busy period, improve personalized assistance to customers, and carry out other necessary tasks.

Savannah would use disinfectant wipes to wipe down frequently touched surfaces, including:

  • cart handles
  • door handles on exterior doors and coolers
  • counters

Future Tasks for Consideration

Online Ordering Ready for Pick Up

Consider providing grocery fulfillment service for customers who are elderly, those who are avoiding the public due to Covid, and for those who are busy and would appreciate the convenience.

Many working professionals and elderly people in the community stop daily at the Post Office next door.

This service would require that the store employ an online order system or provide a paper order form with checkboxes next to typically stocked and purchased items. The form could be emailed or dropped off one day, and the groceries prepared for pick up the next day.

Savannah would use the form to:

  • Locate items on the list and place in the cart
  • Take filled cart to a coworker for a quality control check (coworker would also run a sales slip for the amount owed)
  • Bag the groceries
  • Affix the order form and sales slip to the bags
  • Stow the tagged bags in the cooler or stockroom (depending on products) before their predetermined pickup time.

Laundromat Clean Up

Assigning these tasks to Savannah could free up other staff for customer service. And, Savannah loves anything "laundry."

Savanah would use cleaning supplies to:

  • Clean lint out of dryers vents
  • Wipe out washing machines and door seals
  • Wipe down laundry cart and machine handles and knobs
  • Wipe down folding counters
  • Stock laundry supplies
  • Empty garbage

Drop Off Laundry Service

For the same reasons that pickup grocery service may be of interest to customers, drop off laundry service may be of interest. Savannah loves doing laundry. She does all of the laundry in her home and much of the team laundry at school. She understands the importance of sorting, water temperature, and choosing the right amount of detergent.

Below is a sample of tasks that Savannah can do now. Should this option be considered, we could meet to outline the remaining steps.

Savanah would:

  • Sort customer laundry according to color, texture, and like items
  • Load laundry in the machine
  • Put in the correct amount of detergent (It would be best to use pods, and Savannah has mastered what size load goes with how many pods)
  • Select the water temperature
  • Insert the coins or owner key and start the machine.

The Support and Transportation Strategies will continue. Lisa will provide coaching services to help Savannah learn the Covid Precautions Protocol. Savannah's parents will continue to provide transportation.
