Progress Report: Problem/Solution

Savannah has completed almost half of her work experience. According to Lisa and Sue, Savannah appears to be enjoying the experience, and the employer seems satisfied. Today, however, the VRC received a FYI about a snag.

Problem: After arriving for her shift, Savannah returned from the stock room with tears in her eyes, saying she couldn't find her cart. Another employee had unintentionally moved the cart set aside for Savanah's shift.

Solution: As a remedy, Lisa suggested that they affix Savannah's checkoff list to the cart, signifying it as hers. The employer and Savannah liked that solution. Savannah carried on with the rest of her shift.

Progress Report: End of Work Experience

Near the end of Savannah's work experience, Debra checked in with Lisa. Savannah has become independent in her initial job duties. Because of her success, she is now stocking household items, too. Because of Savannah's methodical speed and the risk of spoilage, she has not yet been promoted to frozen foods.

The staff enjoy Savannah and appreciate her eagerness to do the task so that they can get their customers through the checkout lines quicker and attend to other duties like the deli and produce. About Savannah, one coworker commented, "She comes to work cheerful and is always eager to help. She makes us smile. It's a win-win for all of us."

Erika has been pleased with Savannah's progress and assistance. Lisa thinks there's a good chance that Erika would consider a permanent hire.

Debra reached out to Savannah and her parents. Savannah said she loves the job and wants to continue. Her parents are delighted and support her decision.

Debra explained that she can't make any promises but shared that she will make a proposal to the employer for a permanent position.
